The Elloughton-cum-Brough Hallowe’en Scarecrow Festival saw fabulous weather this weekend as children and families from the villages turned out to support this year’s event. The festival has been organised by the Petuaria Community Forum in conjunction with Blackburn Leisure in an effort to raise awareness of the facilities available at the club.
Attractions included a fun fair, craft fair, a visit from Sam’s Safari and a traditional Punch and Judy show. Visitors were invited to vote for their favourite scarecrow and carved pumpkins. A number of prizes were donated by local businesses and these were awarded to winners in the following categories.
In the School and Child Care Providers category the first prize was awarded to “Owl Babies” by Brough Primary School. The second prize went to “Sunflower Scarecrow” by Sunflowers Nursery. “Room on the Broom” by Brough Eagles Playgroup won third prize.
In the Businesses category “Marty Monster” from Morrisons supermarket won first prize. Blackburn Leisure came a close second with their humorous “Dave Hackett” lookalike scarecrow.
In the Community Groups category the winning scarecrow was “Babies” by Brough Children’s Centre. The Families category was one by Ella Phillips with “Maurice”.
The Pumpkin carving competition was won by Charlie Shimmells.
